Mrs. Euphemia Beaufort (or Effie as her friends call her) is an Edwardian socialite only recently out of her mourning period. She and her beloved husband had no children. They were too busy spending their nights protecting London from Streghe (evil witches). As a Benandante, or good walker, Mrs. Beaufort has a secret life in the Netherworld. And she is more connected to it and the Abyss than she realizes.

Effie and her husband were very much in love. Mr. Beaufort was progressive for the time and left his estate to his wife. This allows her to continue living as she was used to without having to remarry or leave London for her family home in Wiltshire. Mrs. Beaufort enjoys the sport of fencing, but is not a violent woman. She fights peacefully for women's suffrage.
